Finegrinding

Finegrinding is a chip removing process with geometrically indefinite cuts and bounded grain. The abrasion is a results of cutting the material in micro range. During the grinding process bounded abrasives make directed toolmarks.

There are two types of finegrinding wheels. Wether they consist of resin bond silicon carbide respectively aluminum oxide powder or of diamond respectively cubic boron nitrid (CBN) in resin, ceramic oder metallic bond type. Next to the kind of abrasive the bonding is determining for the hardness of the grinding wheel.

In comparison to lapping higher abrasion rates can be accomplished. Dependent upon grain sizeof the chosen finegrinding wheel the processing time is about 3 to 10 times lower.

Usually finegrinding is used as a pre step beforelapping and polishing.
