Lapping
Lapping is used for improving the dimension, shape and roughness of spherical or flat workpiece surfaces. Looese grain is used, which is spreat in fluids or pastes. The grain spikes presses themselves into the surface of worpiece and lapping wheel. The material is being cut undirected. Thereby, the typical matte surface is being created. By lapping you can achieve extremely high shape accuracy.

Best results can be achieved, if the workpiece, the abrasive in the carrier fluid and the lapping plate are tuned perfectly to ech other. Additionally the workpiece shouldn`t be influenced by thermical or mechanical tenses while processing.
When lapping in conventional way, cast-iron lapping wheels and conditioning rings are used with the lapping media aluminum oxide, silicon carbide or boron carbide in several grain sizes. Lapping oils with different viscoity can be added for optimizing the effectiveness of the abrasives. The dosing is realized by a lapping media pump with time-relay control.
