Poli-lapping
Poli-läpping is a procedure where bi-composite lapping wheels are used.
Bi-composite poli-lapping wheels consist of two materials bounded in a resin compound, which are mounted on a
wheel, at which one component is implemented in a spiral, comb or punctual shape. We recommend to use the NEW LAM M'M'® poli-lapping wheels.
Water- and oil-soluble water- and diamond fluids are used as a lapping medium on this wheels, at which monocrystalline
diamond grains offer the best results. Depending on the fabrication of the diamond grain (resin bond or metal bond)
either a higher degree of abrasion or a lesser roughness and scratch tendency can be achieved. For the dosing of
diamond fluid several dosing systems are available.
Contrary to conventional proceedings, the lapping and polishing wheels are divided into several degrees of hardness.
The spreaded diamond grain is subject to continuous speed changes while crossing variably hard polishing wheel
segments. Because of a lesser wheel hardness, in relation to the abrasive and to the to be processed workpiece, the
diamond grain partially presses itself into the soft areas of the wheel and induces directed toolmarks. On the hard areas of the wheel the grain rolls up and has a higher speed, which results in an additional polishing effect.

The essential advantage of the bi-composite-system is the surface processing in a single work step with a high degree
of abrasion and the achievement of shiny surfaces at the same time. This enables lapping and polishing at the same
time. Using this system is thus a supremely economic process, to reduce the time used for lapping and polishing, or
rather reduce the machining steps.
Advantage to component lapping wheel is, that due to the hard components of the wheel the geometry of the lapping
wheel is kept up much longer. The conditioning can be done in a short time by the use of a diamond conditioning tool.
In production operation cooling of the lapping wheel is recommended, in order to conduct generated heat and thus
achieve reproducable results.
